India’s Harjinder Kaur won the bronze in women’s 71 kg weightlifting, after judokas Shushila Devi Likmabam and Vijay Kumar Yadav had won a silver and a bronze, respectively.
Harjinder lifted a total of 212 kg (93 kg in Snatch and 119 in Clean and Jerk) to finish third. India defeated Nigeria 3-0 to reach the final of men’s table tennis event, and will face Singapore in the gold medal match. India defeated Singapore 3-0 in the badminton mixed team event semi-finals.
They will now take on Malaysia in the gold medal match. Judoka Shushila Devi Likmabam lost the women’s 48kg final against South Africa’s Michaela Whitebooi to settle for a silver medal. Vijay Kumar Yadav, meanwhile, won bronze in men’s kg judo after beating Cyprus’ Petros Christodoulides.
However, Jasleen Singh Saini lost the bronze medal match to Nathan Katz in the men’s 66 kg judo event. Suchika Tariyal also had faced defeat in the women’s 57 kg judo bronze medal match. In hockey, India have drawn 4-4 against England in a Men’s Pool B hockey match. It has been a great day for India so far as the country found unlikely heroes.
The Indian lawn bowls team made history on Monday as it defeated New Zealand in the women’s fours semi-final to assure themselves of at least a silver medal.
