Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov stated that Ukraine will continue to fulfill its obligations to the residents of the occupied Donbas. He stated this following an emergency meeting of the National Security and Defense Council convened by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council noted that the state would fulfill all its obligations to its citizens – residents of the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, who would express a desire to move to the controlled part of Ukraine. If necessary, Ukraine is also ready to expand these commitments,” the press service of the President of Ukraine reports.

As we reported, on February 21, Russia held a meeting of the Security Council, where the issue of the recognition of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) was brought up.

On the evening of February 21, Putin made an address to Russian citizens and said that Russia would recognize the independence of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republics”.

Soon, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian Defense Ministry to send troops to the occupied territories of Donbas. The purpose of the presence of Russian troops in Donbas, according to Putin’s decree, is to carry out peacekeeping functions.
