Soda Consumption Can Lead To Diabetes!

According to major European studies published yesterday, one bottle of sugary soda a day increases the risk of developing diabetes by more than one-fifth.

Using data from 350,000 people in eight European countries, the researchers found that every additional 340 ml of sugary soda increased the risk of developing diabetes by 22 percent.

“Given the increase in consumption of sugary drinks in Europe and their unhealthy effects on the body, this issue should be brought to public attention,” said Dora Romaguera, head of the research group at Imperial College London.

The results of the study are consistent with the findings of American scientists, who confirmed that the consumption of sweetened drinks is closely associated with weight gain and is the basis for the development of diseases such as type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes develops as a result of impaired insulin secretion. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 310 million people worldwide suffer from this disease.

The survey involved 350 thousand people from the UK, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Sweden, France, Italy, the Netherlands. They were asked about their diet, nutrition, and consumption of sugary and artificially sweetened soft drinks and juices.

The results of the study confirm the link between the rise in type 2 diabetes and high consumption of sweetened soft drinks.
