Taub-Dix drew attention to chewing gum and suggested to refuse it, because during chewing a person swallows air, which leads to bloating and discomfort. “Sugar-free gum is often made with sugar alcohols, which can cause bloating, gastrointestinal discomfort, flatulence and, in some cases, diarrhea,” she said.
