Nutritionist Advises Some People Not To Drink Water With Meals

Some people should not drink water with food, said Elena Tikhomirova, a nutritionist and therapist at the SM-Clinic medical center. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, she advised to abandon such a habit in case of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).

According to the specialist, if a person is relatively healthy, he can drink water when it is convenient for him – before, during, and after eating. The digestive system will perfectly digest food both with and without liquid in the stomach.

However, people with diagnosed problems in the work of the gastrointestinal tract should not drink water with meals, says Tikhomirova.

“If a person has such diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in the acute stage, such as gastritis, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, ulcers, and others, doctors usually prescribe him a sparing diet. And during its observance, it is better to drink water separately from meals, so as not to dilute the digestive juices and not burden the digestive tract, ”she said.

Earlier, endocrinologist Yulia Shishkova named the most useful types of cereals for people who have serious health problems. In particular, she advised patients with diabetes to choose cereals that are minimally mechanically processed: oatmeal or minimally processed flakes, buckwheat, brown rice.
