How To Treat Hypothyroidism?

Read Time:3 Minute, 1 Second

Pearl Lowe, designer, and former singer are proud of her healthy lifestyle. She eats right, has no bad habits, and swims every day. A woman very rarely gets sick, even if she manages to catch a mild cold, her body immediately copes with it. And just a couple of years ago, Pearl was so exhausted that her hair began to fall out, and her nails were getting thinner.

“I felt terrible all the time. I was very tired and had no energy for anything. And I was only 40, I didn’t consider myself an old klutz, so I couldn’t understand what was happening, ”the former singer complains. But the lack of energy was just one of the terrible symptoms that bothered the woman. Starting at the age of 29, after the birth of her second son, her hair became thinner and began to fall out a lot.

“As a result, I had a whole bald area on the left side of the crown. I tried to cover it up with the rest of my hair, but it was too thin. Over the years, things only got worse. When I washed my hair, there was a lot of hair left in my hands, and the bald spots became more and more noticeable, ”says Lowe.

Such a state greatly affects the human psyche, if people look at you with pity, then you begin to feel sorry for yourself even more. Pearl was determined not to see a doctor because she didn’t think she would get better. However, two years later, she broke down and went to seek medical advice on what to do with her hair. The family doctor immediately found the source of the problem. The woman suffered from anemia, in addition, her thyroid gland was not functioning properly.

Hypothyroidism is a disease that 2 out of 100 patients in British clinics complain about. Although, some doctors claim that this figure is higher. The fact is that the hormone that our thyroid gland produces helps the body to properly carry out the metabolic process. “If your body secretes little thyroxine, all its processes are slightly slowed down. Therefore, people with this diagnosis complain of a breakdown, lack of sleep, and obesity, ”says Miles Black, an ENT at a London clinic that specializes in thyroid problems.

Hair falls out for the same reason. Other symptoms include dry skin, brittle nails, heavy heartbeat, and others. In the case of this disease, immunity is turned against the body and antibodies attack the gland. Hypothyroidism is most often seen in women. In many patients, this disease develops after unsuccessful chemotherapy, or from improper treatment with pills.

Many doctors believe that this is due to the negligence of clinic workers. Every patient who comes with complaints of fatigue must donate blood for analysis, the results should show the level of the hormone in the blood, and only then the doctor will tell what is happening to him. But when a woman comes to the reception, they say to her, “Of course, you are tired, you have two children. Need more rest.” They give me a bunch of pills and let me go home. Therefore, the female sex is more susceptible to the disease.

The situation is aggravated by the factor that each person needs his amount of thyroxin. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to trace a patient to just depression or complex thyroid disease. Doctors often prescribe levothyroxine for people with this diagnosis. This drug helps you gain weight, and makes your skin look better, but it won’t help your hair if you’re anemic, as Pearl was.
